RCGOP: No Tax Increase

As many of you may be aware, the Rutherford County Board of Education has submitted a request to the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners to increase the budget allotment for Rutherford County Schools (RCS) for the 2025-2026 school year by approximately $5.5 million. The Board of Commissioners is working diligently to determine how to adequately fund RCS and all county departments while balancing the budget with the resources available to the county.
As Chairman, I understand that it is not necessarily the will of the entire Board of Commissioners to increase taxes, and with this in mind, it is my responsibility as Chairman to encourage them to do everything in their power to fund RCS and county departments to the adequate level without raising taxes for Rutherford County residents. In this same spirit, I implore all Rutherford County residents to email the Rutherford County Commissioners and members of the Board of Education encouraging them to explore all possible avenues for funding for our schools and county departments without raising property taxes. Below is a recommended sample text that Rutherford County residents may use to send to their County Commissioners. Email addresses for the Commissioners and Board of Education members are included after the sample text:
“As a tax paying citizen of Rutherford County, I understand that the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners is considering the options available to provide the Rutherford County Schools and county departments with the necessary funding to meet their budget requests. I also understand that the County Manager has suggested the only way to fulfill the requests of the Board of Education as well as the approximately thirty county departments in their entirety is by raising property taxes for Rutherford County residents by as much as 25.2%.
I wholeheartedly support funding a School Resource Officer for every school in the county under the administration of our elected Sheriff, and I support a wholesome education for all Rutherford County students in both public and non-public education. Moreover, I urge the County Commissioners and the Board of Education to commit to work together to exhaust every avenue possible to fund the most vital needs of Rutherford County Schools and county departments without raising taxes for the residents of Rutherford County.”
